    About FSC

FSC is an international, non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting responsible management of the world's forests. It was founded in 1993 in response to public concern about deforestation and demand for a trustworthy wood-labelling scheme. There are national working groups in 28 countries including the UK. FSCUK is a registered charity. It is supported by NGOs including WWF, Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth and the Woodland Trust.

FSCUK Working Group is legally and financially independent of FSC international. It sets forest management standards for the UK, promotes the system and provides an information service.

We are located in Croydon, south London, England. Our Factory and shop is located in Sydenham Road, Croydon - just 5 minutes walk from Selhurst Train station.

We are the largest quality hardwood suppliers in South London. Situated near Croydon, we supply timber locally and across Great Britain. We started off as a JSM Joinery, a company which produces high-class purpose made joinery for the construction industry, but 3 years ago we set up the sister company S. L. Hardwoods, offering joinery quality timbers to the public, hobbyists, and small builders.

After a while, we began to realise the beauty and fascination of exotic timbers, and so started offering a range of turning & carving blanks in a wide variety of species, as well as exotic boards for furniture making.

  • Ecological Statement:

Although much has been written in the media about deforestation and the world's shrinking forests, more countries are now actually planting more trees than ever before. In addition, exisiting forests are being carefully managed and harvested to ensure that our global environment is protected.

Even with these facts, many people have chosen to use other materials instead of timber, such as plastic, steel, and aluminium but these are finite and non-renewable. Through their production and consumption they have a greater impact on the envioronment than timber.

Because of current legislation, and our care for the environment, we never buy timber which isn't from a properly managed and sustained source.

So when you buy timber from us you can be sure that you are not harming the environment.
